Pretty Lady: Alana

MargitMae is excited to bring you a feature called Pretty Lady! In each Pretty Lady, a MargitMae reader will share her favorite products that keep her lovely and healthy. If you would like to participate as a Pretty Lady (or Pretty Man!), please shoot us an e-mail – we’d love to hear from you!

MargitMae readers, give a warm welcome to our next Pretty Lady, Alana!

Born in Chicago but raised in Minnesota, this 20-something beauty is one of MargitMae’s fashion inspirations. Alana currently serves as a VISTA Leader with the Phillips Sectoral Employment Initiative VISTA Program with The Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation of Minnesota.  While she’s not working to increase career-laddered employment opportunities for low-income adults, she can be found spending time thrifting, hanging out with her fiance, planning her upcoming wedding, and making improvements on her new home.

Alana also happens to have an impeccable sense of style.  You know those people who seem to be effortlessly put together in every situation?  That’s Alana.  We’d hate her for it if we didn’t love her so much.  We asked Alana for her top 3 products that make her a natural beauty.  In her own words, here are her top 3.

  •  Eminence Eight Greens Youth Serum  I have had a once-in-a-while-like/hate relationship with my skin since the 5th grade, when the first spot appeared.  “Puberty, you a sneaky devil,” I thought.  “This will end when I’m older,” I told myself.  And low-and-behold, it didn’t. I am now a 25 year-old woman with acne prone, sensitive, combination skin.  Whoopee.  After years of dermatologist visits and endless battles with my face, I was about to resign myself to ultimate defeat. Enter: Eminence Eight Greens Youth Serum. This awesomely green (literally and figuratively) goop is like magic face healer.  It hydrates my skin, yet calms breakouts down, clearing out pores and making my face feel like a baby’s butt (obviously everyone’s goal in life).  For those with combo/acne prone skin, this little gem is worth the money spent (and you thought organic skin care from Hungary would be cheap…).
  • Trader Joe’s Spa 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil This stuff is the sheezy.  I dab a little on my face if I have a particularly stubborn breakout, or if I’ve accidentally given myself another paper cut for the 5th time this week, or if my high heels (why do I wear them again?) have given my poor pinky toe yet another blister…you get the picture.  At just around $8, this all-natural heal-everything oil is pretty much the best thing ever, and much cheaper than finding the same thing at fancier places.  And it smells good.  And it gives you an excuse to head over to Trader Joe’s (besides the 3 buck chuck and insanely inexpensive gourmet cheeses, of course).
  • V’TAE Lavender Body Spray While I disapprove of the ridiculously unnecessary apostrophe in the brand name of this product (really?), this little baby has literally four ingredients and makes you feel relaxed and calm, whether you’re getting out of the shower in the morning or just freshening up after a long day of sitting at a desk for 8 hours.  It’s so gentle you can use it as a room and linen spray, too, or test it out on your cat…KIDDING.

So there you have it, friends – how Alana stays naturally gorgeous.  And as a cat lady herself, you knew she couldn’t resist sending along a bonus photo of her cat, Bosco.
