Vapour Organic Beauty Illusionist Concealer

1 Aug

It’s time for another exciting review!  Today’s pick? Vapour Organic Beauty Illusionist Concealer .

I have searched high and low for a natural concealer that didn’t cost more than $30 and I’m pleased to announce that I’ve found one.  I very much dig Vapour Organic Beauty Illusionist Concealer – it packs a pigment punch and blends easily into the skin.  I dislike concealers that are the same consistency as liquid foundation and prefer a cream concealer.  Many cream concealers can, however, feel very dry and are hard to spread.  Not this one, friends.  Creamy, moisturizing, blend-friendly.  Awesome coverage.  Hooray.

And what’s in this stuff?  Vapour states that the product “nourishes with Vapour’s face specific infusion of anti-inflammatory Frankincense, antioxidant Tulsi and moisturizing and calming Lotus flowers”.  Anti-inflammatory?  Please pass it my way.  I generally wake up with puffy, discolored under eye circles and appreciate any help I can get. Vapour Organic Beauty Illusionist  Concealer  also contains 70% organic ingredients with the remainder of ingredients made up of natural mineral pigments and vitamins.

And in a MargitMae first, I will now show you what the product actually looks like on skin.  On my puffy, discolored under eye area.  Please ignore the fact that I am desperately in need of a new mascara as the one I’m wearing is old and prone to clumping.

Look at my giant eye and fear me!

Here is it on my hand.  I wear color 010 which is worn by those who mimic Casper the Ghost.  Fear not, non-Casperians – this concealer comes in 7 shades.

Fun fact – I learned a new camera trick to take that photo.  Apparently you can do more with point-and-shoot cameras then just, well, point and shoot.  I used the ever-exciting macro feature to take giant photos of my eyeball so you could check out my contacts.

And this is the first ever photo I took where I used a setting other than “turn the flash off”.  Be proud.  Sadly, the wine photos took a turn for the worst.

This wine has a fine nose.

Too much wine.

The shame.

What were we talking about?  Oh yes, Vapour Organic Beauty Illusionist Concealer .  It’s a fantastic concealer – for under $25, you get a creamy and effective concealer full of yummy ingredients.  Check it out and let me know what you think.

What’s your favorite concealer?  What awkward photos shoots have you made your cat participate in?

EO Renew Rose and Chamomile Bubble Bath

27 Jun

Confession: I love baths.  I love setting aside time to relax and let the worries and cares of the day slowly slip away.  And what makes a bath even more enjoyable?  Bubbles!

In my search for some Mother’s Day gifts for my awesome mom, I stumbled upon EO’s line of bubble baths.  I ended up selecting the rose and chamomile scent as it smelled lovely and promised to ‘renew’.    My mom really enjoyed these bath bubbles so I knew I had to give them a shot and was I ever pleased.

Marshmallow, jojoba, and lemon balm extracts soften and sooth the skin while rose and chamomile essential oils leave your skin deliciously fragrant.  I absolutely adore the scent of this bubble bath; while rose-scented products sometimes smelly murky and musty, the combination of rose and chamomile smells slightly sweet and incredibly invigorating.  I know using the word ‘invigorating’ might sound strange in describing a scent, but you’ll have to take my word for it – this stuff smells amazing.

Some other awesome aspects of EO Rose and Chamomile Bubble Bath?  A bottle of this stuff costs less than $12.  In addition, it’s insanely concentrated; a tiny, tiny amount of this product will give you a bathtub bursting with long-lasting bubbles.  My mother made the initial mistake of using too much product and ended up with a bathroom full of bubbles.  Use only a bit of this stuff if you’d prefer a bathtub of bubbles over a bathroom of bubbles.

If you’re looking for a little extra something to add to your bath, grab a bottle of EO Rose and Chamomile Bubble Bath.  You leave the tub relaxed, renewed, and sweetly soft.

Burt’s Bees Moisturizing Day Creme

23 May

Ladies and gentleman, let me tell you about my new favorite moisturizer!

Burt’s Bees Beeswax Moisturizing Day Creme is my new go-to moisturizer.  My skin is soft and happy and ready for summer.  This creme contains a mix of beeswax and botanical oils that your skin will slurp right up.

I adore the gentle scent of this creme ; it makes me smile in the morning and at night.  Yes, I also use this creme at night as well even though the word ‘day’ is in the title.  But what I really love about the creme is its light texture; it is airy almost to the point of having a whipped consistency.  It’s silky smooth and spreads easily across the face.

The only drawback to this creme expressed in other reviews I’ve read is that some think it takes too long to absorb.  I quite like the fact that it doesn’t immediately absorb as it provides as great base for make-up and helps foundation spread evenly.  It also leaves my face feeling hydrated before I head to bed.  If you feel the creme is a bit too greasy or thick for you, feel free to add in a bit of water.

Another fantastic feature? The price point. A jar of Burt’s Bees Beeswax Moisturizing Day Creme costs only about $15.  The jar is also terribly cute and would serve well as a container for a homemade candle, for storing hair binders, or for storing a DIY concoction once you have used up the creme.  Emptying the jar might take a while, however, as very little of this creme is needed each day.

So give Burt’s Bees Beeswax Moisturizing Day Creme a go; it’s well worth the money.

Avalon Organics Hand and Body Lotion

16 May

If your skin is anything like mine, it might still be recovering from the dry air of winter.  While I’m excited to pack away my heavy creams and body lotions, I still need to apply a little something to my skin to keep it nourished.  I’ve been using Avalon Organics Lavender Hand & Body Lotion to keep my skin looking fresh for the spring and summer.

This lotion has a light consistency without being runny.  It also has a lovely lavender scent which makes me think of, well, spring!  The lotion contains sunflower, flaxseed, and coconut oils which allows the lotion to easily spread and absorb into the skin.  One of the other big benefits of Avalon Organics Lavender Hand & Body Lotion is that a bottle of this stuff is under $10- awesome!

What changes do you make in your routine when the seasons change?

shhh. shampoo | shower | shave bar

9 May

Lovely readers, I am SO excited to tell you about shhh.

shhh. is a grooming bar that is free of synthetics, preservatives, artificial fragrances and coloring (hooray!).  The brain child of Becky Sturm, founder and CEO of 3way beauty, the shhh. bar is a time and space saving beauty.  shhh. can be used for shampooing, shaving, and showering.  And, bonus – the packaging is 100% compostable and recyclable.

Upon hearing about this product, I knew that I had to try it.  shhh. can be purchased either in  lavender or citrus scent.  I went with citrus hoping the scent would help perk me up in the morning.  I also thought it would be perfect for my minimalist manpanion and had him test it out both at home and on a camping trip.   In his words, here is his review:

In the few short minutes I left myself to gear up for a backpacking weekend in the St. Croix river valley, my attention turned (very briefly) to cleanliness. The sample-sized cube of shhh. was more than I would need, but it was smaller and lighter weight than bringing an entire bar of something else and weight was going to be an important consideration since everything was to be carried on my back. I would also be carrying all the water I would need so I was pleased to find that shhh. lathers and rinses easily and cleanly in very little water. On Saturday my party hunted successfully for morel mushrooms that grow abundantly along the valley bluffs. We enjoyed a handful in the evening sauteed in oil, salt and pepper and packed the remaining shrooms with us to give to a few friends back home. After a long day hiking and 2.3 inches of rain dumping on us for over 48 hours, shhh. tallied-ho as a solid multi-tool good for face, hands and hair. My thickly bearded face came clean with ease and I slept like a baby despite the thunderstorms.

I also, of course, gave the bar a test run.  For shaving and showering, the bar is amazing.  It’s lathers quite well and leaves skin without that dry, tight feeling that some soaps seem to bring on.  It also works well for a get-the-job done kind of shampoo that (as Evan noted) lathers and rinses quite well.

Overall, shhh. is a fantastic product, especially for travel.  As I prepare for my summer expeditions, I’ll be glad to throw shhh. into my travel bag.

MargitMae’s First Ever Giveaway! John Masters and EOS Lip Balm

8 May

Love giveaways?  Love soft, smooth lips? You are in luck!  MargitMae is having its first ever giveaway and one lucky reader will be walking away with not one but two of my favorite lip balms.

The first lip balm the lucky reader will receive is an eos Sweet Mint Organic Lip Balm Sphere.  I’m not quite sure how Sweet Mint differs from plain old Mint, but it does make me feel fancier.

Did I mention that eos balm comes in an awesome alien-pod sphere? It does.  And it’s shape makes it easy to find in a purse, which is why eos Sweet Mint Organic Lip Balm Sphere is my day-time balm.  Yes, I am one of those strange creatures that has different lip balms for different occasions.  I love the slight sheen of this balm as well as the scent.  It’s not an overwhelming scent of mint (perhaps that’s why it’s ‘sweet’?) and helps perk me up.  Also, it’s fun to pretend that I’m using some sort of space-age lip balm.

The second lip balm the lucky reader will receive is John Masters Organics Lip Calm.

Lip Calm is my bedtime  lip balm.    It’s super, intensely hydrating.   It smells like lemons and limes and tangerines. The only problem I have with this chapstick is that, after application, one looks like they just licked a bottle of olive oil.  So this is my bedtime chapstick. And didn’t every little girl dream of what her bedtime chapstick would be?  In any case, it will leave you with soft lips in the morning.  And who doesn’t want to wake up with silky lips?  Am I right?  Is this thing even on?

So now you’re probably thinking to yourself, “awesome, I want to win these fantastic lip balms – how do I enter?”.

Pai Avocado and Jojoba Hydrating Day Cream

2 May

Hello, lovely MargitMae readers!

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another product review.  This week, I’m glad to give you the skinny on a lovely hydrating cream from Pai.

Pai Avocado & Jojoba Day Cream is a fantastic cream with a thicker consistency that easily spreads onto the face.  While this cream is meant for all skin types, my slightly dry skin found this product incredibly moisturizing without being greasy.  It has a light, fresh scent, and the jojoba and avocado oils soak right into your skin.  I wouldn’t recommend this product for those with very oily skin but find it wonderful for normal to somewhat dry skin.

After using this cream for a week, my dry spots were completely gone.  My skin was soft and glowing.  This is incredibly rare for me even in the more humid summer months.  I adore this face cream.  Adore it.  Despite the fact that it’s a day cream, I use it at night too.

Want soft, supple, glowing skin? Give Pai Avocado & Jojoba Day Cream a whirl.

What moisturizer do you normally use?  Do you use separate products for day and night?

Nude Cleansing Facial Oil

25 Apr

Nude Cleansing Facial Oil

Sweet goodness gracious, I have found an amazing facial cleanser. Seriously amazing.

Nude Cleansing Facial Oil is a product that I had heard rumblings about but had never been super interested in trying.  Using oil to clean myself?  I’ve heard of oil to moisturize but not to clean, excluding the time in seventh grade when I learned about Romans using oil and a stick to scrape dirt from their bodies.  But my curiosity got the best of me, and try it I did.

"Watch me turn this oil into milk!"

And how glad I am that I tried it.  To use, you warm a few pumps of oil in your hands and massage onto your dry face.  Watch with wonder as the oil removes every single bit of your eye makeup, and squeal with glee over the gentle and light floral scent (or don’t squeal – your call).  Add a tiny bit of water to your face and watch as the oil becomes what is apparently referred to as a “light milk”.  Basically, the oil will magically transform itself into a creamy cleanser.  You’ll feel like a word-class magician as you change oil into cleanser.  Then rinse with water! Your skin will be left feeling ridiculously soft and hydrated due to the Omega 3 and Vitamin E in the oil.  Many users have also reported that this oil helps balance skin and calm acne.  If the idea of cleansing your face with oil is terribly unappealing to you, you could try out Nude’s Cleansing Facial Wash.  If you are willing to give washing with oil a go, Nude Cleansing Facial Oil is a great gateway into the world of fabulously soft skin.

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek

18 Apr

Hello, lovely readers!

Let me tell you a little story about a product that will give you a straight-out-of-the-winter’s-cold blush.

So, it may not be winter any more where I live (Minnesota!), but I still crave the flushed cheek look.  What helps me accomplish that?

RMS Beauty’s Lip2Cheek in Modest.  This product is awesome.  Only a mere smidge of this product is necessary to accomplish a radiant flush.  Seriously.  Do not use a lot of this product unless you enjoy looking like a clown.

Improper use of Lip2Cheek.

Lip2Cheek is not only highly pigmented, but is creamy and moisturizing.  In terms of cheek color, I would settle for a non-drying product, but no, RMS Beauty goes above and beyond with this hydrating formula.  Oh, and this product also doubles as a lip color.  Boom goes the dynamite.

I’ve been using the color Modest, which is described as a “fresh modern pink”.  Pink it is, bordering on coral.  The other colors also look amazing – I’m dying to try Promise.

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Modest

At $36-$40 (depending on where you purchase the product), Lip2Cheek might seem a bit pricy at first glance.  I do recommend purchasing it despite it’s high price point due to the pigmentation of the product.  I’ve been using this product almost daily since January, and I’ve used perhaps 1/4 – 1/3 of the Lip2Cheek pot.   This tiny, beautiful product really goes a long way.

What’s your favorite multi-purpose product?
